Soil pollution management
Adif ensures legal compliance regarding soil pollution.
The current legal framework that determines the obligations affecting the land owners having carried out potentially polluting activities is Title V of Law 22/2011. Also, Royal Decree 9/2005 and Order PRA / 1080/2017 establish the list of Potentially Soil-polluting Activities and the criteria and standards for the declaration of polluted soils.
Based on the list of Potentially Soil-polluting Activities, Adif-High Speed has been carrying out a series of actions on potentially polluted soils related to a historical contamination of the company's facilities.
The actions to be undertaken in the different locations are defined by the situation detected by environmental control programs that allow to prevent and detect changes in the environmental conditions of the soils. In order to determine the needs to be met, it is necessary to update the characterization studies, carry out a risk assessment or execute remediation projects.
