Conventional and metric gauge lines

The aid received amounts to €605 million, coming from the Cohesion Fund, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and TEN-T grants, mostly during the 2000–2006 and 2007–2013 periods.

In the 2014-2020 period funding amounting to 478.7 million euros is expected.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), via Spain's Multiregional Operational Programme 2014–2020 contributes €381.1 million, broken down into €294.6 million corresponding to aid under Thematic Objective 7: Sustainable transport; €3.2 million for Thematic Objective 4: Low-carbon economy; €5.0 million for Thematic Objective 13: Technical assistance and €78.3 million through REACT-EU resources within Priority Axis 20 and Thematic Objective 13: "Fostering crisis repair in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing a green, digital and resilient recovery of the economy."

The European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is providing €97.6 million.

During this period, Adif will also receive ERDF funding amounting to €7.4 million, which will be managed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN) and the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE). (See funding information in R + D + i ).

The railway infrastructure is receiving European funding for the 2021-2027 period, with an estimated aid of €237.68 million. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via Spain's Multiregional OP 2021-2027 , with an estimated aid of €150.85 million within Specific Objective (OE) 2.8 “Promotion of sustainable multimodal urban mobility, as part of the transition towards a net-zero carbon emissions economy”. The European Union's “Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF) is contributing €86.83 million.
